Raven Lake Initial Construction, Huntsville State Park, c. 1937 - 1940

Before beginning construction of Raven Lake earthen dam, variously located atop and alongside an old timber industry railroad bed, Company 1823(CV) dug a diversion channel to reroute the flowing water. They also had to build a temporary bridge to support a water pipe that crossed the channel. The lake's name refers to Texas patriot Sam "The Raven" Houston, who lived in Huntsville in his later years (and whose children owned property where the park is located).
