Cabin, Lake Brownwood State Park, c. 1963

One of seventeen cabins built by Company 849 at Lake Brownwood State Park, this one rests on a ledge, from which one set of naturalistic stone steps rise to the parking area, and another set descends to the lakeside trail. Architect J. F. Doyle designed the cabin using small, limestone blocks laid in a coursed pattern, tapering upward to further soften the mass of the building and create a sense that the small cabin emerges from the soil.
