Ezekiel Rhodes Oral History

Ezekiel Rhodes spoke with a TPWD interviewer at Bastrop State Park on March 31, 2003, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary celebration of the CCC. Here, Rhodes recounts that he enrolled in the CCC rather late, in 1941, but that his association with the CCC had been longstanding. Ezekiel Rhodes's father had enrolled in the CCC about 1935; with his younger brother, Rhodes sold sweet potatoes to Camp Mexia until he graduated from high school at the age of eighteen when he enrolled in the CCC. The family lived between Mexia and Groesbeck near Fort Parker State Park.
